Hey, my name is Thomas and I'm from Rotorua.
When I finished school at Western Heights High School in Rotorua at the age of 17, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with myself, like a lot of young kids. I decided I would join the navy three years after leaving school. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I am very proud of my 3 years serving my country. Going from small town Rotorua to the big smoke of Auckland and completing my basic training at the Devonport naval base was very tough but the friends I made and the bonds we formed definitely made up for it.
I love to play rugby, basketball and many team sports. Playing for the North Shore Rugby Club in Devonport is actually how I discovered my passion for building. Through rugby, a former coach offered me work as a hammer hand for his business and I've never looked back. I've been building since 2016, and am currently working through my BCITO builder's apprenticeship.
I love to build because every day is different. You could be building a fence one day and framing a house the next. I feel that if you enjoy what you do for work you will never have to work a day in your life.
My partner and I have recently had our first child. Through building, I feel I can provide for my growing family and set a bright future for not only myself but my daughter also.
In our spare time which doesn’t come often to new parents, my partner and I love to “glamp”; its like camping but a lot more glamorous. We often head up north with the rest of Auckland to Mangawhai Heads, to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city….
My daughter and partner are the driving force behind my passion for building, and keep me pushing forward to achieve my goals.
Thomas is employed by Jim and Del Gleeson as an apprentice builder.
